Coaching Spring 2008
Saturday 2nd February: Dorset School league at Vernditch, Salibury. GR SU 046 215.
The emphasis for to day will be on using ‘attack points’ to find your controls, so after you have run come and find one of the WIM coaches and we will provide you with an exercise based on the Vernditch map.
Saturday 9th February: Southwest Junior Squad (SWJS) at Stockhill, Mendips.
This session is open to anyone who has regularly completed orange standard courses and is looking to move up to Light Green standard. Lynn Branford and Kirsty Staunton will be going and are happy to help any WIM juniors who would like to go. We can also help with transport if family life has got too hectic!
Also on Saturday 9th February: Moors Valley Country Park,
There will be 2 yellow courses set up using the permanent orienteering course and electronic punching kit available from late morning, plus the usual Try O session from 1.30 – 3.00pm.
Sunday 17th February: WIM Winter Warmer at Avon Water, parking at Brockenhurst College GR 303 026.
If you have not entered the Regional event there are colour coded courses available, white through to light green, which can be entered on the day. Again WIM coaches will be available to talk you through your course or give you a particular skill to concentrate on during your run.
Saturday 23rd February: SOC training event, Fritham (see SOC website for more details)
This training event is being organised by Southampton orienteering club and is for adults and juniors, it is open to members of WIM but Colin would like to know how many people are coming so he can print enough maps. WIM coaches will be their to help. If you would like to go could you let Kirsty Staunton or Lynn Branford know by Monday, 18th Feb.
Sunday 2nd March: WIM Dorset Schools League event at Godshill Wood GR: 176 160.
We have not decided which orienteering skill we will focus on to day, this will be decided once we have seen the map! But the format will be the same as Vernditch – you do your course then we will give you an exercise to do based on the Godshill map.
