British Schools Orienteering Championships - Dorset As I am sure you are all aware, WIM and SARUM (with assistance from WSX)are organising the British Schools Orienteering Championships in November. We are now at the stage of needing well over 100 cheerful happy helpers over the weekend. On Saturday, 17th November - two events are happening. John and Di Tilsley (WIM) are organising the selection race at Gore Heath which is to pick teams for the World Schools in 2008. We expect about 150 schoolchildren to run in this. At the same time Ian Sayer (WSX) is organising a practice event for the remaining age groups at Cold Harbour and for this we could have up to 600 schoolchildren. On Sunday 18th November the Championships is being organised by Pat Hart (SARUM) at Crane's Moor, Bovington and for this we expect about 1000 schoolchildren to compete. In addition Dick Keighley (WIM) is organising a Trail-O event adjacent to the Assembly Field. Please do not be surprised if one or all of these people contact you asking for help on one or both days - it is a very big event and because it is young children needs a lot more helpers and officials than a normal event of this size. There are a lot of things that need doing on that weekend and help from everyone will be more than appreciated.
