WIM members may not be aware that WSX have just installed permanent courses in three of their local parks - Littledown in Bournemouth, Upton Country Park near Poole and in Poole Park itself where the existing course has been updated. This has all been done with Lottery funding.
WSX have had opening events at two of these area but sadly, that at Upton clashed with our MTBO event whilst the Littledown event took place during last Saturday's monsoon.
What is particularly useful, and nopt just for local schools, is that because these parks are council owned,Wessex have been able to put up the maps as downloadable files on their website so you can print your own maps on demand rather than having to buy them from the park itself when the park cafe/shop is open.
(WIM can't do the same for Moors Valley because of Ordnance Survey/Forestry Commission licensing conditions - but it is much easier to get maps from the Moors Valley Visitor Centre (where they get through an incredible 1000 map packs per year) which is open daily throughout the year, unlike the park shops.)
Littledown is a fairly basic parkland area adjacent to the Littledown Sports Centre, and originally mapped by John Warren for them. Poole Park is wll known to our club and ideal for Park/Sprint-O whilst Upton, on the edge of the Inner Poole Harbour, is an attractive area with quite a bit of woodland which is an ideal area to use as a stepping stone between a school /park area and a forested area. i reckon it would also be an ideal Trail-O area and will pursue that idea with WSX.
Together with basic instructional leaflets for each of the parks and a couple of other leaflets the whole is an attractive package and well worth investigating.
