Copy of email from Karen to Ian Sayer:
Hi Ian
Thanks for your email. I haven't been in to see him today as I think I have a few cold symptoms appearing and as he is down at zero I don't want to take anything in. He finished the third lot of chemo last Wednesday and was very sick with it on the Sun, Mon and Tues. He couldn't keep any food or drink down so didn't order any in the end. He's got over that now thankfully. He was allowed home then on the Thursday afternoon as his counts were still ok but had to go back in in the evening to have some antibiotics which he was have morning and night. He decided to stay in overnight and we expected him to come out again on the Friday after the antibiotics but when they checked his blood counts he was down to .2 so it was back behind closed doors which is where he is now.
He seems to be coping alright, just a bit bored at times, and is certainly stronger this time compared to previously, due I'm sure to his 6 weeks at home. The doctors expect him to be there another couple of weeks or so.
His sister sent us a message on Monday to say that Southampton have been in touch with her and she has to go there on 9th March to check that everything is still ok health wise. They have told her they plan the transplant on 22nd March but no one has told us anything officially. If that is the case then he will probably have to be in Southampton around 12th March as they had said he would be taken in about 10 days before transplant date in order to have more chemo and get prepared for it. Realistically he will really need to be out of Poole by the beginning of March to allow him a week or so at home if this is going to happen but we will have to wait and see.
Regards
Karen
